China has achieved greatly in GENOME research

Chinanews, Beijing, October 16 –
“Since China took up the task of 1% of the GENOME research, so great achievement
has been made that China has won itself the right to speak in this field. Now we
can even say that China has changed the international pattern of GENOME
research,” said Deng Yajun, a gene-biologist in Beijing, the director of the
Legal Identification Center of Beijing Genomics Institute of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences.

The GENOME research project was launched by developed countries including
Britain, the US and Japan. With the effort of several Chinese scientists, China
has joined in the project and now it has the access to all its fruit.

After completing the task of the GENOME project, China has also taken up
10% of the HAPMAP project.

The GENOME project, however, is just beginning for human beings to
understand the function of genes, and HAPMAP will be the key piece of this great
jig-saw puzzle.
